As our team looks ahead to our upcoming spring networking events, the value in qualifying subcontractors properly is top of mind. Specifically, as we prepare to attend the Spring 2018 Philadelphia “Who’s Who in Building & Construction” Showcase, JH Greene understands that our success is heavily dependent on subs who uphold the same sense of workmanship as our team.
With our client relationships reliant on quality work, we can’t afford to have a subcontractor who doesn’t meet the bar. To prepare for engagements where we plan to build new sub relationships (such as a the Who’s Who event), we ensure we’re set up for success through the following conversations early on.
– Portfolio of experience and capabilities: All too often a company can have a name that insinuates a background in a certain trade that isn’t their focus at all. We like to have dialogue of previous job experience that meshes well with our typical client expectation and job requirement.
– Reputation: There’s no harm in asking around to do your research. GCs can realize a ton of value from inquiring with connections if a subcontractor has a good reputation for safety, performance, communication, and overall ease to work with. This feedback can also be gained through seeking references to grasp if there is any risk associated with bringing the firm onto a project.
– Confirmation of coverage: It’s critical that the sub has all necessary licenses and insurances to conduct business where ever the project may be located.
In most cases, when a thorough background vetting shows alignment, there’s a good potential for a long-lasting relationship. Knowing the strong local resources in the Philadelphia area, JH Greene looks forward to exhibiting at the 2018 Blue Book Showcase and connecting with like-minded construction partners.
